Description

This small, elegant case with a hinged lid is historically referred to as a “vanity case,” “minaudière,” or simply as an “objet de vertu.” It was crafted in the 1920s in Idar-Oberstein exclusively by master lapidaries for Parisian luxury jewelers. The elaborate cutting process took exactly one workweek: First, the exterior shape was cut from a single block, then sawed in half, after which the saw edges were precisely refined to fit. The hollow shape was carved out from both halves using drills and diamond grinders and then polished to perfection, showing not the slightest irregularity. Lastly, the fittings and hinge, made of platinum and diamonds, were drilled and the two halves were reassembled seamlessly. With an average wall thickness of 2 mm, a recess of approximately 80 mm, and a flawless, mirror-like polish, it is a true gem of lapidary artistry! The fittings and clasp are set with diamond roses “en pavé”. The front fitting plate is designed in the style of a fountain, while the back features elegant miniature palmettes. The lid closes precisely, making it feel like a solid stone. A true delight to the touch, it is an adornment for anyone, still capable of holding all personal items today— from business cards to chewing gum — and is ideal for carrying e-cigarette sticks.
