„Perl-cutlery“, Karl Groß 1913, for Peter Bruckmann, Germany

Description

This cutlery was chosen by the German Werkbund for his index „Deutsches Warenbuch“ in 1915. In addition to the cutlery designed by Richard Riemerschmid, it was the only contemporary design, which was accepted by the panel. For this section just classic shapes of cutlery from the beginning of the 19th century on were chosen.  Karl Groß’ cutlery with “perledge” added easily to the selection of classic pattern.

The „Deutsches Warenbuch“ aimed at „types“, which could be used for mass production and could be “valid on the market for more than 200 years” (Richard Riemerschmid).
For the first time in Germany this book had set manifestation of technical progress against traditional craft-oriented appraoches. “Made in Germany” became a quality trademark. And the here offered cutlery is a first example for best German design in its time.
