Description

This bust portrait with the face in fine profile is that of Hera or Juno, crowned with a diadem. She is the queen of the ancient gods in Greek and Roman mythology. Here, she was cut from a layered agate. Cameos like the one offered here were among the most popular jewelry in the 19th century. Through them, their wearer was able to convey social messages, but also give expression to their own personality. This finely cut two-tone banded agate was created in the years around 1900. It is set in a rose gold, semi-circular band with a stepped, protruding ring shoulder, which gives the gem a classically balanced design.
