Description

This finely crafted pendant of 14k rose gold displays a plastically modelled floral composition characteristic of the second half of the 19th century. At the center and arranged concentrically are a-jour-set rose-cut diamonds with a total weight of approximately 1.0 carat.
The diamonds are mounted in deeply drawn arched and bezel settings that capture the light from all sides and deliberately enhance their brilliance. The open back (a-jour) enables a vivid play of light, lending the stones a lustrous, reflective presence despite their historical cut. The slightly varying rose-cuts indicate the handcrafted origin of this piece.
The goldwork is carefully executed by hand: the petal-like settings are plastically modelled, gently domed, and rhythmically arranged. The reverse features an openwork construction that is both functional and aesthetic, pointing to a workshop of high artisanal competence.
Stylistically, the pendant can be dated to late Historicism. Its floral forms, the rose-cut diamonds, and the warm rose gold suggest a date of around 1870–1890. Such pieces were popular as pendants or as components of colliers, combining naturalistic motifs with representative diamond work.
A characterful historical jewel that impresses through material substance, craftsmanship, and period-specific design—while retaining a timeless elegance through its floral forms.
