Jakob Bengel
Jakob Bengel, Idar-Oberstein, Germany – founded in 1871. First made watch chains and between 1924 and 1939 costume jewelry. The individusl models can be identified by means of eight pattern books which have come down to us from the 1920s and ‘30s. The firm’s order books record business contacts with France (1930-35) as well as to the French overseas possessions and colonies. In addition, the firm maintained business links with other European countries and overseas (1929-1935). This firm is recorded has having delivered goods to the following French department stores: Grands Magasins du Louvre, des la Samaritaine, du Printemps and Lafayette.
Costume jewellery was produced until 1939, made of chrome, brass, glass, silk and especially Galalith. From 1933 NS badges were made of Galalith.
