Description

The island of Ceylon just southeast of the Indian subcontinent, which had only been renamed Sri Lanka in 1972, is the most eminent origin of blue sapphires. It is known to be the oldest mining region for these precious gemstones. Contemporary sources claim that in classical antiquity already Greeks and Romans used sapphires from Ceylon to beset their jewelry. And according to the story of Salomo, the king also tried to court legendary Queen of Sheba with sapphires from the “city of gemstones”, Rhatnapura in Singhalese.

The rich, azure sapphire in the ring offered here is flanked by two baguette cut diamonds. It is set in a crossing band in four prongs, reduced to an absolute minimum, so that they do not impair the beauty of this amazing gem.

Sapphires in an expressive color nowadays are particularly rare and altogether rank among the most desired and sought-after assets. With a weight of 7,28 cts, this natural stone is a particular trouvaille, as it shows no indications of heating, meaning it has not been artificially modified in its color. It has been examined and certified by the DSEF (German Gem Lab) and will be shipped together with this report in a jewelry box. It is possible to inspect the ring any time in Berlin, Germany, where Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel is happy to assist any interested buyer.
